TESTIMONIALS

What our boarders say

"Welcoming and positive atmosphere"

"My gelding and I moved into Bonafide Stables 11 years ago and this is where we intend to stay.  The “why” behind that decision is the unparalleled care he receives. Jen Lowrey  has a fundamental grasp of proper equine nutrition, decades of multidisciplinary training experience and has been instrumental keeping my “not so easy keeper” at the top of his game.  The matted stalls are bedded with high quality pine shavings and create a perfect environment for my boy when he’s inside. Proper herd integration takes priority at the farm-the small group turnout and attention to pairing compatible horses together is paramount and just one more detail that helps my boy thrive.  The large indoor arena with incredible footing has provided us a means to prepare for horse shows all year round, and allows us to never miss a beat even during inclement weather.  Every farm proclaims “drama free” but at Bonafide Stables that bar is raised even higher—owners, boarders, staff and trainers collectively are kind, courteous, helpful, and truly create a welcoming and positive atmosphere where a multitude of disciplines mesh together seamlessly. My horse is my world and here at Bonafide he is healthy, happy and excels; his CARE is my number one priority—and EXCEPTIONAL CARE is why I am grateful to call Bonafide Stables my heart horse’s home."

- Dana M.

"The care provided is the best you’ll find"

"I have been a client-boarder at Bonafide Stables since 2001. Bonafide Stables is a relaxed atmosphere with quality individualized care for every horse. Jen Lowrey is a top professional with over four decades of horse and farm experience. The care provided is the best you’ll find. Jen has the knowledge and ability to care for pre and post hospitalized horses. Jen has a great support system with her husband, Curtis, and her son Austin. They help with all the barn and yard chores and keep a keen eye on all the horses and humans with compassion. Jen has trained and shown at top levels in AQHA and has been a part of World Champions, AQHA Champions, Congress Champions, High Point in the Nation, and Superior AQHA awards. There is a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere with different disciplines including hunter, dressage, and AQHA professional horsewomen and men. There are varieties of horse breeds, Thoroughbreds, Quarter Horses, Drafts, Warmbloods, Andalusian, and retired pasture pets. No matter your discipline or breed of horse - everyone receives the same quality attention and care. There is an ability to become a better horse person as a result of the wide variety of knowledge and experience shared through all the different disciplines and professionals at Bonafide Stables."

- Eileen S.

"Unparalleled equine care"

"Bonafide Stables: unparalleled equine care with a focus on rider success, regardless of skill or discipline. I have learned so much about horse care, health and performance from Jen. She and her family run a welcoming business on a picturesque property. I trust them implicitly. I am so grateful for the care my horses receive and the friends I've made."

- Martha M.

"My horse will always be happy, healthy, and safe"

"Bonafide Stables is a great place to board a horse. The family that owns and runs the farm (Jen, Curtis, and Austin) have my complete trust that my horse will always be happy, healthy, and safe. My vet and farrier both think highly of working with the owners and boarders. This is the only farm I have boarded my horse where I actually like everyone that boards there."

Passionate about the well-being of horses and people

Our Team

Curtis Lowrey

Owner & Property Manager

I became part of Bonafide Stables when Jen & I married in 2007. I worked full time as a Firefighter/EMT for over 20 years. In 2023, I began working full time at our farm, taking on many daily tasks I enjoy, like coordinating hay delivery, maintaining the farm property, and overseeing projects around the farm. In addition to that, I am solely in charge of routine maintenance and making sure the property is in pristine condition.

Jen Lowrey

Owner & Horse Care Professional

In 1991 my father built this amazing facility for me (and handed me the mortgage payment book) to have the opportunity to make a living doing what I love, working with horses. In my training years, My students and I earned several titles both locally and nationally. I was also an AQHA Professional Horseman until I decided to go a different route and focus primarily on boarding. I am passionate about the care and well being of the horses here and do all I can to keep them safe and happy. I have an expertise in identifying lameness and health issues, and work closely with veterinarians and farriers to help resolve the issues. My family and I pride ourselves in the quality of care of the horses and facility. What I love most about this farm is the ability to work along with my husband and son and also my customers that have become my true “Barn Family”.

Ellen Dempsey

Instructor & Trainer

After spending 20+ years teaching for Marriottsville Ridge Farm, I started my own Carlow Equestrian in 2020. The majority of my clients board at Bonafide and I come in as a freelance trainer. Working with Jen, Curtis, and the rest of the team means that I don’t ever have to worry about the horses when I’m not there. As a professional who also works a “real” job, that was crucial to find in order to make sure I could focus on teaching. Having the horses at Bonafide has been one of the best things that could have happened to my program.

Around the Farm

FAQs

WHAT TYPE OF FEED DO YOU STOCK?

We stock Triple Crown Senior, Sentinel Senior and Sentinel LS.

WHAT TYPE OF HAY IS FED?

Orchard Grass hay (Square and Round Bales) Western Alfalfa hay (additional charge)

HOW ARE SUPPLEMENTS AND MEDICATION HANDLED?

For supplements, most boarders use the SmartPak system and have the supplements delivered to the barn. If boarders don't use SmartPak, we ask that daily doses of supplements be provided in small Tupperware containers labeled with the horse's name. Administration of medication varies with the drug and protocol required. We work with boarders and our veterinarians to see that medications are administered properly.

HOW ARE HORSES FED?

Horses receive grain twice daily. Horses receive hay in slow feed bags while stalled. The amount of feed and hay each horse receives is determined by individual needs. We watch weight and make adjustments as needed.

WHAT'S THE TURNOUT SCHEDULE?

Turnout is determined by the season. In spring, summer & early fall horses are in stalls with fans on (depending on temperature) and are out overnight. In winter, horses are in stalls overnight and outside all day.

WHAT ARE YOUR BARN HOURS?

7 am- 9 pm, Other times are acceptable for emergencies or show prep.

WHICH VETERINARY PRACTICE DO YOU USE?

The vets from Damascus Equine keep our horses healthy and happy. We prefer to have all horses at Bonafide on a Health Program through one of the practices that fall under Damascus Equine Associates.

WHAT FARRIERS COME TO BONAFIDE AND CAN I USE ANOTHER FARRIER OF MY CHOICE?

Boarders may use any farrier they choose. We have several who come to Bonafide. Two of them include Gary Ridgely and Mark Agostinelli. They work with us to schedule visits and we see that horses are in the barn and available at the time each farrier arrives. If boarders want to use another farrier, we ask that they schedule visits themselves and be there to hold their horses.
